Washington Slagbaai
National Park
Covering an area of 13,500-acres
on Bonaire’s Northwestern tip is
Washington Slagbaai National Park,
a bird watcher’s paradise with over
203 different bird species known to
visit. The park is also a good place for
scenic hikes with a choice of three main
trails one of which, the Subí Brandaris
Trail, not only offers views of the
neighbouring island of Curaçao but on
a clear day, one can also see Venezuela’s
Paraguaná Peninsula.

Alice in Wonderland
Borrowing the name from Lewis Carroll’s
novel, this popular Bonaire dive spot
allows visitors to plunge into a veritable
underwater wonderland of coral fish and
gorgonian corals. As this underwater
wonderland is close to the coast, visitors
need only rent dive or snorkeling gear to
start their unguided adventure among
emperor fish, parrot fish, sergeant majors,
candy bass, barracudas and snappers.

Lac Bay
Although many of Bonaire’s visitors come for
the diving, Lac Bay can offer an alternative
for those that want it. This sandy beach has
some great views, shallow waters and plenty
of amenities including two windsurfing
shops. If they don’t want to windsurf, sun-
seekers can relax in lounge chairs or enjoy a
cocktail at the beach bar.
