French Leave Beach This beach is known to some as Club Med Beach due to it being the location of a Club Med Resort prior to its destruction by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. The beach consists of over a mile of pink-tinged sand ideal for beach combing. Swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing are also ways to pass the time. PlaceS of Interest Pink Sands Beach On the eastern, Atlantic side of Harbour Island is the Bahamas’ three mile long beach well-known for its pink sands which in places are 100 feet wide. Foraminifera, microscopic coral insects are responsible for the sand’s hue and they also play a large role in the marine food chain. Although the beach is bathed by the warm Caribbean sunshine, its pink sands are always cool, making a barefoot walk, pleasantly comfortable. Photo Credit: Alice B. Photo Credit: TripAdvisor
