Fort Frederik (St. Croix)
Although built to protect the islands from pirates, it was from rebellious slaves that
it offered the most protection in 1848, when eight thousand of them marched to
the fort to demand freedom. Today the fort is home to a museum where visitors can
learn more about the march and other details of the islands history.
