Governor’s Beach
In the high season, huge cruise ships dock at Cockburn Town at the north of the beach. Palms
surrounding this beach gives it an air of seclusion. Governor Beach’s narrow but long stretch of yellow
sand is calm and peaceful due to being sheltered from the ocean’s trade winds. Overlooking the beach
is the Grand Governor’s mansion from which the beach gets its name. 2012’s Hurricane Sandy left the
Mega One Triton, a cargo ship that plies the route between the Dominican Republic and Grand Turk,
grounded on the shores of Governor Beach which, is an intriguing addition to the beach landscape.
