Oranjestad Oranjestad, Statia’s only town is a delight to explore and it is easy to discover the history of the island as you stroll along on foot, around the Upper and Lower town. Dutch architecture, forts and other historic buildings, cobblestone streets and ruins which hint of stories written long ago, but not forgotten will keep a visitor engaged for many hours, well-spent. If you are fortunate enough to be visiting the island on the 16th November you can experience the island’s Statia Day celebrations. The day is celebrated with parties and officially remembering their past with special attention being paid to the year 1776 when St. Eustatius was the first country to recognize America’s independence. As well as parties, parades and various sporting events also take place on this memorable day. Statia Day November 16, 2019 Save the Date Photo Credit: Cees Timmers Photography
