Pastelle
Pastelles are similar to Mexican tamales, which is meat wrapped in a
cornmeal dough and steamed. In the Dominican Republic, pastelles are
usually made during the Christmas season. The dough of the pastelle is
made with a combination of grated yam, green plantain and green banana,
well-seasoned. The starchy dough with meat at its center, is placed on a
clean piece of banana leaf, then dropped into a pot of boiling water and
steamed for about 20 minutes. Delicious!
