The Boiling Lake Trail places of interest Kalinago Territory The native people of Dominica are the Kalingo and today they have their own territory which encompasses an area of 3,700 acres and eight small villages. Throughout the territory, roadside stands sell a variety of items handcrafted by the Kalinago people. The territory also has an interpretive center, Kalinago Barana Autê, where visitors can learn about traditional and cultural aspects of the Kalingao, such as basket weaving, calabash carving, boat building and herb collecting as well as traditional songs and dances. About six hours are needed to complete this trail leading to the Boiling Lake which is likened to a natural cauldron of boiling water covered by blanket of vapor. This is an eight-mile trail, popular but difficult, taking hikers through the island’s lush rainforests and beautiful mountain flora. www.DiscoverDominica.com Photo Credit: Dominica Tourism Authority Photo Credit: Dominica Tourism Authority
