Pirates Week
For eleven days every November, Grand Cayman enjoys fun-filled days of music, street dances,
competitions, games, local food and drink, kids day, parades, sport events, Heritage Days, pirate
invasion and fireworks galore! A steel pan competition, kick-off party and spectacular fireworks display
on the Friday night marks the start of the events. A Pirate Costume competition, crowning of the
Festival Queen and National Song Contest are all part of the festivity. To add to the exciting activities,
a mock ‘pirate invasion’ from the sea, with two sailing vessels-of-old filled with ‘pirates’, land at George
Town harbour. After landing, the pirates capture the Governor! The street are usually filled with
spectators, all eager to see the additional twist that is put to the event which is a bit different every year.
This is the only event of its kind in the Caribbean region and is fun for all members of the family.
