The town of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye comes
alive the week before the Catholic season of Lent
begins. This is their carnival celebration, where
they enjoy a period of festivity with parades, flour
“fights”, contests, music, local art, local food, fun
and merriment, and more. Then, for the next
40 days, Lent, a solemn period of fasting and
abstinence will be observed.

National Heroes and Benefactors Day
(Baron Bliss Day)
This is a national holiday, dedicated initially to
Baron Edward Ernest Victor Bliss, a British traveller,
who willed most of his fortune to the country. The
day is marked with ceremonies and wreath-laying
at his grave. In 2008, the name of the holiday was
changed from Baron Bliss Day to its current name.
An annual kite festival and the annual harbour
regatta are both held on this day.

This is an annual race which originates in Belize
City, with cyclists riding to Belmopan, the capital,
then back to Belize City for the finish.
