O
nly beauty lie within its three miles, compact and
charming, subtly tugging on the heartstrings of
the unsuspecting visitor. Union Island’s 3,000
residents heartily welcome guests to their island
but give no indication that leaving will be difficult. It won’t be
easy to shake off its charm.
Union Island is part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and it
benefits from being surrounded by the Tobago Cays Marine Park.
Yachts visiting the uninhabited islands often stop off at Union
Island. Most of the businesses and accommodations are located
in its main town, Clifton including the JT Pro Center Kitesurfing
School. This island’s other town is Ashton.
The casual, atmosphere in the bars and restaurants throughout
this charming island is comfortable and makes you feel right
at home. You can party under the stars in bare-foot, laid-back
indifference, knowing that it’s all right. Or, head to a nightclub
and dance the night away to local island music. You may prefer
to lounge indoors with a smooth cocktail - that’s all right too
and, to switch things up a bit, a street party may be just what
you need. Whatever’s your pleasure, you’ll find it here on Union
Island.
If you’re here during the Easter season, their Easterval festivities
which takes place in both Clifton and Ashton will keep you
entertained. People come from neighbouring Caribbean islands
and elsewhere to participate in, and observe the festivities.
A blend of Carnival and Easter, this event showcases the
uniqueness of Union Island - a Miss Easterval pagaent, food,
parades, sports, games, calypso music and a regatta - all during
the Easter season. And, when Easterval is over, the island rests.
