About his incredible skill and his
sculpting process
You may find this a bit surprising but in my
process practicality comes in second to
conceptualization. The magic for me is in the
conceptual, the idea, the spark that ignites the
fuse. Then the hands-on part of the process
follows.
Having said this, there’s immense pleasure
in the practical part of my process. For wood
sculptures, it starts with selecting the right
block of wood, then sketching out my ideas
on the block’s surface, after which I use a wide
assortment of hand tools to sculpt into the
wood until the sculpture has materialized. Then
a desired finish is applied.
For bronze it entails creating a Marquette or
miniature of the sculpture that I want to create,
usually from clay but I prefer wood. Then
scaling it up to a monumental size in a process
that starts with armature building (the sculpture
skeleton), to applying clay, sculpting the clay,
followed by mold making, then bronze casting.
About the types of wood he uses
I use various woods, amongst which my
favorites are Mahogany, Red and White Cedar,
Laurier Canelle, Teak and Laurier Mabouey. All
locally grown.
About being the son of famous
sculptor Vincent Joseph Eudovic and
whether they share a similar style
I have a very distinctive sculpting style(s) that is
very different from that of my father. I mirrored
him throughout my childhood and teens but
found my own voice very early on when I got
exposed to the global art scene through my
travels, my sojourn to Niger, Africa being the
most seminal amongst these experiences.
About the greatest accomplishment
in his career, so far
My greatest accomplishments thus far has
been my involvement in the China’s Public
art renaissance. I’ve erected six monumental
sculptures in various cities across China and I’m
particularly proud of that achievement because
my sculptures are seen by and connect with
millions of people. I’m also slowly staking my
claim on the very prominent New York Art scene.
About what he likes best about
being a sculptor
I like the freedom that sculpture gives you to
explore space and material with abundance.
I like that sculpture has a free pass to all it’s
neighboring genre’s, which includes but is not
limited to painting, fashion and photography.
Being a sculptor is like being an ambassador
to the senses because sculpture is the only
medium which can truly engage all of our
senses.
About a favourite piece
I’m too young of an artist to have a favorite
piece. I’ll leave that to hindsight when I’m 80,
lol. For now I feel most excited by upcoming
projects.
