Fortin de la Galera
Similar to the other Caribbean islands, the
forts on Margarita were built to protect
against invaders, but despite the forts,
Margarita was invaded a total of 14 times
during its history. Built in 1811, Fortin de la
Galera is today just a tourist attraction but it
is one which provides the best spot on the
island to see a beautiful sunset. A visit in the
afternoon is recommended as nearby there is
an assortment of excellent restaurants where
you can relax as you watch the sun go down.
