Jade Romain Miss Dominica 2017 & Miss Caribbean Culture 2017 Jade came from very humble beginnings. She was raised in a low income, single parent household and at a young age her mother suffered a mental breakdown and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Things were very difficult, especially financially. In spite of the difficulties, her mother made it her duty to impress upon her the importance of education. She was very strict in that regard and this resulted in Jade’s academic excellence. She was a very reserved child, never speaking much, except within the comfort of her home where she was quite a chatterbox. But, she always had a desire to overcome her circumstances and that fostered a very hardworking and determined spirit within her. She was not afraid to take on challenges and work hard for what she wants. Due to her intelligence, as well as circumstances, she was awarded scholarships by the National Co- operative Credit Union (NCCU) Ltd to attend both high school & college. The NCCU Ltd is now her employer and were her proud sponsors during the Miss Dominica Carnival Queen Pageant. “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today” - Jade S. Romain
