About her favourite thing to do when
she’s not training
When I’m not training, it’s all just family time. I don’t do
clubs and that sort of stuff…I don’t have a night life, if
I do it’d be for a very special occasion. I think I outdid
myself with the clubbing as a student. I’d take a little
trip to the cayes with my partner, hang out with my
grandparents, catch up on much needed sleep, chop
down some coconuts AND one of my favourite things to
do is hang out at the Ordonez Bike Shop. The guys there
are like my second family, the bike shop is like a barber
shop for the guys or a hair salon for the girls…you get to
chill there and just talk up a storm about whatever the
topic may be.
About Kaya’s Belize
Belize, often times referred to by Belizeans
as the Jewel, is my favourite place to be,
home to a blend of many different cultures.
How many people can say that they can
vacation in their own country? We have so
many tourists attractions; from the cayes
and beaches on the coast to the Mayan
Ruins and caves inland.
My favourite local food is a Creole dish
“rice and beans, stewed chicken, potato
salad and fried plantain”. In most Belizean
households this dish is cooked for lunch on
Sundays. However, you can walk into any
local restaurant and get this dish on given
day of the week.
First time visitors to Belize have many
options. Depending on their definition
of adventure or vacation, I’d recommend
renting a vehicle and taking a drive
down south. Allowing themselves to be
captivated by the beautiful scenery on the
Hummingbird and Southern Highways.
On their way, they have the option of cave
tubing and zip lining, visiting a Mayan ruin,
viewing the famous Blue Hole and even
making a stop at the Cockscombs Basin
Wildlife Sanctuary. They can take a stop at
the “Culture Capital” , Dangriga, spend a few
nights in Placencia and visit Tobacco Caye.
If they’re more into beaches and snorkelling
or diving, they should definitely jump on
the water taxi from the city and head to
cayes. Spend a few nights in Caye Caulker
and San Pedro where they can explore the
Caribbean Sea during the day and enjoy
the night life after.
