JANUARY 1
Hores Racing in Burrell Boom
This is an annual, all-day event, held at the
Sylvestre Stadium in Burrell Boom. Horse racing,
food and music!
FEBRUARY 10 - 14
Fiesta de Carnaval
Celebrations in the town of San Pedro
Ambergris Caye (and other parts of the
country) one week before the Catholic season
of lent begins. Parades, group dances, flour
“fights”, painting contests, local art and food
are part of the festivities.
MARCH 5
National Heroes and Benefactors Day
(Baron Bliss Day)
This is a national holiday dedicated initially to
Baron Edward Ernest Victor Bliss, who lived in
Belize and willed most of his fortune to the
country. The event is marked with ceremonies
and wreath laying on his grave. In 2008, the name
of the holiday, Baron Bliss Day, was changed to
National Heroes and Benefactors Day. The Annual
Harbour Regatta and the Annual Kite Festival are
also held on that day.
MARCH 9 - 12
La Ruta Maya Belize Canoe Race
This is an annual race which takes place on
the Belize River. Starting at 7:00 am on Day 1
and travelling over 170 miles in a 4 day period,
participants from Belize, the USA, UK,Canada,
Japan and other countries challenge each other
in what is the longest race of its kind in Central
America. Entertainment, music, games and food
are all part of this event.
