Started in 1983 primarily as a place to care for mistreated and abandoned animals , the zoo now has over 170 native animals in residence . Get introduced to Belize ’ s exotic animals and learn about wildlife conservation and rehabilitation .

Located 32 miles north of Belize , this protected reserve is an amazing experience for birders of any skill level . Its 16,400 acres of lagoons , creeks , logwood swamps , broadleaf forest and pine savanna offers nature lovers an unforgettable experience . Globally endangered species are protected here , including the Central American River Turtle , Mexican Black Howler Monkey and the Yellow-headed Parrot .
