Middle Caicos

There are three settlements on Middle Caicos , the largest of the islands , but it only has a population of 275 . The coastline of this island is more dramatic than on the other islands with limestone cliffs shading sandy beaches to the north and swamplands to the south . The island is also home to half-moon lagoon called Mudjin Harbour which features what are thought to be the most extensive cave systems in the region and the caves are complete with stalactites and stalagmites . At low tide you can actually walk a trail between Middle Caicos and North Caicos .

South Caicos

Although South Caicos is small with an area of only 8.5 square miles , visitors go there because it is perhaps the best place in the island chain for fishing , birdlife and seafood dining . It is also the island where Queen Elizabeth 11 stayed at during her 1966 visit . The islands old disused salt pans have now become home to a wide variety of birdlife including Flamingoes .

East Caicos

Even though East Caicos covers eighten square miles and has the highest point on the islands , it is now uninhabited but the many coves make excellent picnic sites for fishermen and divers . On the northern coast of the island a seventeen mile long beach is now exclusively used by sea turtles to lay their eggs .

West Caicos

This nine square mile island is said to have the best diving spots in all of the Turks and Caicos and that may be why the Ritz Carlton are developing what will be their most exclusive resort there but they are taking great care to ensure that in developing their resort , they maintain the island ’ s ecosystem .

Cayes

The Turks and Caicos are also home to Salt Cay , Pine Cay , Ambergris Cay and Parrot Cay all of which have exclusive resorts with luxurious amenities . As the cayes are uninhabited the staff will have to come from the other islands .
Although most of the tourists stay on Provo for its luxury accommodations and great beaches , most will take advantage of the what the rest of the island chain has to offer by means of day excursions or private boat hire .
