Fond d ’ Or Nature and Historical Park
You ’ ll find Fond d ’ Or Nature and Historical Park on the east coast of St . Lucia right in the heart of the Mabouya Valley . This park is steeped in history and culture . First settled by the island ’ s Amerindians , it was later used by the European sugar plantation owners . A tour of the park will reveal relics from the Amerindian era and also from the 17th to 19th century European settlers . Sugar mill ruins , historic plantation buildings , wind mill , steam mill , boiling house and cattle barns will take you back to an era of historical significance for this Caribbean island .
A guided walking tour through the tropical forest , mangroves and dry scrub woodlands will lead you to a broad white-sand beach which is a nesting site for leather back turtles between April and October .
