V ’ dezdra shared with Mélange . . .
“ My middle name given to me at birth is actually ‘ Valdezdra ’ which is very unique , so when deciding on a name for my brand I knew right away that I wanted to use that name . A friend at the time suggested that instead of using my full name I should uee just ‘ V ’ dezdra ’ which I thought was perfect as it gave it a nice flare ”.
------------------------- As a young girl growing up I loved modeling and inevitably fashion , so I would dress up all the time and my mom was very supportive of my passion and as such she started to sign me up for pageants . Later on in my life when choosing to go College ( 2001 ), it was a no-brainer for me to choose Fashion Designing and it was there that I attained my skills as a Designer . I honestly did not really think I would become a Fashion Designer . It sounded good but I didn ’ t know it would actually happen .
When I started crocheting apparel in 2009 , it was really just as a hobby , until people started showing interest and asking me to sell to them , that ’ s when I thought “ hey , I could actually make something out of this ” and I loved it . Seeing people ’ s reaction to my pieces is still very priceless not to mention seeing them wearing it .
------------------------- My brand is essentially me . It is a reflection of my own style and approach to life . I am very practical but fun , I can be very sexy but reserved when need be . I don ’ t exactly like black and white , there has to a burst of color ! I have done men ’ s wear , women , kids and even babies so there ’ s really no limitation to my brand .
------------------------- My last collection was for Carib Style Week in Miami , June 2016 . It was a mixture of swimwear and casual wear - shorts & dresses . I played with bright solid colors contrasting them with white . I called it Prism .
------------------------- I ’ m inspired by pretty much everything around me , nature , people , things in general . If I am preparing to do a collection , I usually go to the store and choose my yarn and whatever colors jumps out at me creates the foundation for the collection . I do not draft my patterns so they come raw from my head . I must thank God for giving me this talent and as well my genes since my grandmother was a designer / dressmaker herself .
