Of course , an authentic Jamaican experience would not be authentic without experience , without food . To truly digest what the country has to offer , you have to ingest its food , and what delicious food it is . Jamaica is synonymous with jerk . Chicken , pork , fish , you name it ! Find a jerk spot like Boston in the parish of Portland , Scotchie ’ s in Kingston and St . Ann or Father Bull in Manchester , or find a regular person who happens to be a great cook . Whatever you do , find jerk ! And , to take it a step further , to enhance the Jamaican-ness of jerk , add a nice , cold bottle of Red Strip beer . Like bread and butter - Red Stripe and jerk .
Another popular Jamaican eat is escovitch fish . This is fried freshly-caught fish , usually snapper , seasoned to perfection with the lingering taste of the salty Caribbean Sea , covered in a pickle of spicy scotch bonnet peppers , onions and carrots . Gloria ’ s in Port Royal has some of the best escovitch fish . This mouth-watering goodness is a must-have and a will-not-forget . And , to round out your taste adventure , you must have dessert , and dessert is ice cream , and ice cream is Devon House . Devon House is world-famous for its ice cream , and rightly so ; delicious and unique flavours with the smoothest cream you ’ ve ever had .
