The Citadelle Laferrière
Located on Haiti ’ s northern coast , this fortress sits on the top of Bonnet a L ’ Eveque mountain . It was built in the beginning of the 19th century as a symbol of Haiti ’ s power and independence and is the largest fortress in the Americas . In 1982 it was nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

Haiti ’ s history is clearly displayed in this museum which is dedicated to the “ fathers of the Fatherland ”. Information from pre- Columbus through to the colonial period and its revolution to the present is proudly displayed in two exhibition rooms .
