With the evolving demand for specialty cakes in Grenada , people are increasingly moving away from the traditional icing cakes and now are requesting fondant creations , with characters , drawings , etc . This encourages Jade to take on new challenges and further develop her talent . That talent was on display at the recently held Grenada Cake Wars . She shared her experience from that event with us :
. . .“ It was indeed a great experience . I completely went out of my comfort zone by participating , but in the end I was successful and got to meet and work along with other talented persons in the field . Having to complete cakes within a short period of time in an unfamiliar space was the most challenging aspect of the event but my motto throughout the process was “ Do Your Best ”.
The competition consisted of two elimination rounds . In the first Tasting Round , Jade baked a Christmas Fruit Cake which was soaked in a butter rum glaze , garnished with royal icing , toasted walnuts and fresh fruit . She placed 2nd . Round Number 2 was the Decorating Round with a wedding theme , ” Tying the Knot ” where she placed 1st . The final round gave participants the opportunity to present a cake with the theme Halloween “ Defying Gravity ”. Team Grenada went against Team Anguilla and Team Trinidad . Grenada placed 2nd overall .
