Clifton Heritage National Park This 208 acre park showcases the diff erent cultures that have called the Bahamas home, including African civilizations, Lucayans and the Loyalists. Located on New Providence’s westernmost tip, the park not only off ers diverse scenery which includes ancient dunes, sandy beaches, rocky shorelines and coastal wetlands but it also off ers a vast array of activities like bird watching, snorkeling, fi shing, boating and swimming. Of special signifi cance is an area bordering the cliff s where the art of Antonius Roberts and Tyrone Ferguson stands, depicting a sad story. This location is historical as it is said to be the area where African slaves disembarked the slave ship which brought them from Africa to the Bahamas, and also close to a plantation which kept slaves. The art named “Sacred Space” depicts enslaved women leaning their bodies towards the ocean as their souls cried for freedom.
