Jamaican horticulturist Hedley Vivian Edwards first established this
facility in 1937 which today houses over 200 different varieties of
animals. Covering more than four acres, the tropical gardens, zoo and
conservation center is home to the Bahamas national bird the Caribbean
Flamingo, other bird species, reptiles and a wide array of mammals and
tropical plants. This is the only zoo in the Bahamas and it is also the venue
of weddings, birthday parties, camps, field trips and tours.
