Hanuman Statue
Consecrated in 2003, the island’s
Hanuman Statue is the second
largest in the world and the largest
outside of India. Hanuman, in the
Hindu religion, protects people
from evil and is considered a warrior
god. The statue which stands 85
feet tall has an architectural style of
the Southern Indian Dravidian.
Trinidad’s principal zoo is located in the island’s capital in close proximity to
the Queen’s Park Savannah and the Botanic Gardens. It is home to over 100
diff erent species of animals such as Bengal tigers, crocodiles, snakes, monkeys,
giraff es and other mammals, reptiles and birds many of which are endemic to
Trinidad. Open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with an aff ordable entry fee of
15 and 30 Trinidad and Tobago dollars (2.5 and 5 US dollars), it’s easy to drop
in for a quick visit with the animals. There is no petting and of course, feeding
by visitors isn’t allowed but you can, of course, watch as the zoo keepers feeds
and safely interacts with the animals.
