Fort Charlotte was completed in 1806 and was named after the wife of King
George III, Queen Charlotte. It stands at 600 feet above sea level and provides a clear view of the capital,
Kingstown, the coast and surrounding Grenadine islands.

The fort was built to protect
the island from a possible
land attack from slaves and
the Amerindian people. Its
cannons point inwards, away
from the sea.
