PLACES OF INTEREST
Sacred Heart Church
Located in The Bottom, the Sacred Heart Church is one of three Catholic churches on the island. One
other is in Windward and the next in Hell’s Gate. Although the Sacred heart Church was built and used
by the community from 1877, it was not formerly dedicated until 1935 when it offi cially came under
the Catholic Diocese of Willemstad headquartered on Curacao. It is a beautiful little church and the
mural by local artist Heleen Cornet is bound to impress.

Fort Bay Harbour is the only offi cial entry point into Saba by sea and it is usually the busiest
place on the island, bustling with activity, especially on Wednesdays when the supply ships
arrive. Visiting yachts, commercial vessels and fi shing boats can all be seen here at some time or
the other and this is also where day trips around the island will originate. The island’s only gas
station is also stationed at this location. It is an interesting place to hang out, and you can do
that at Pop’s restaurant located here, a favourite with locals and visitors.
