Krishna Lawrence
Krishna sees the Caribbean as a
melting pot of flavours and, as
a music producer, he believes
he should be able to bring all of
them together under his spell.
Music Producer, Songwriter, Engineer and Entrepreneur
- Dada Music -
Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival is over and what a carnival that was! After the song Famalay’s
resounding success throughout the carnival season leading up to the Road March title win, and its
continuing popularity, it must be agreed that Dada Music has solidified his place within the world of
music producer greats in the Caribbean!
Who is Dada Music?
On the island of Dominica
where he lives and works,
Krishna is popularly known
as Dada Music. Growing up,
he nurtured a keen interest in
music, critically assessing music
played on radio and in the
community during parties and
get-togethers.
“Famalay”
During his teenage years, he
got access to different types of
software that allowed him to
explore his musical interest in
areas such as “Deejaying” and
“Riddim Drum Programming”.
He soon realized that Drum
Programming allowed him to
more clearly understand sound
design and manipulation, so
he gravitated to it and, as the
saying goes, “the rest is history”.
Krishna began to create and
re-create sounds on demand, he
started playing the keyboards
and later on, sound engineering
and song writing was brought
into the picture.
His first significant “hit” was
in 2013 with “De Long Tongue”
by Halibut of famed “Belles
Combo” of the Cadence Lypso,
followed by a string of hits from
around the region, ranging from
Trinidad & Tobago in the south
to St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands
in the north.
During the early stages of his
career as a music producer,
bands such as Triple Kay and
WCK would use the “Riddims”
he was producing at the time to
develop songs and song pieces
or “chants” that worked well
with the masses. This gave him
much-needed publicity.
In 2016 he was nominated for
Riddim compilation of the Year
and Best Music Producer of the
year at the International Soca
Awards, with his hit riddim
compilation, “Loud Riddim”
which featured songs from
world renowned artists like
Azaryah ( formerly Flipo) of
Trinidad and Tobago. This riddim
project amassed millions of
views on YouTube and tens of
thousands of downloads and
plays on streaming sites such
as Spotify and iTunes. This was
followed by wins in a number
of soca monarch and road
march titles in St. Vincent, St
Lucia, Dominica, Antigua and St
Thomas.
The Dada Music Brand has now
evolved into a well established
and respected music production
brand in the Caribbean and
is beginning to attract a lot of
International attention.
