“Artsy Silk”
P
lamka Evtimov is a
Bulgarian-born and
Cayman Islands-based
visual artist. Since her
arrival to the Grand Cayman
in 2016 she has been inspired
by the natural beauty and
colorfulness of the Caribbean
and started creating art pieces
from silk - a material that
has been adored by Chinese
dynasties and Indian culture
for centuries. The vibrant colors
of the sea, flowers, trees, sky
and fiery sunset of Cayman all
unlock her desire to express
her feelings through her art. At
the same time, the people of
Cayman’s high appreciation of
nature and unique art products
encouraged her to satisfy this
need by creating ArtsySilk.
She grew up surrounded by
fabrics thanks to her father who
was a master tailor. Since her
early years she was exposed to
a variety of textiles and sewing
machines, which inspired
her to begin designing and
coloring clothing and fashion
accessories. She went on to earn
a university degree in education
with fine art specialization and
spent some time teaching art.
Plamka was first introduced to
silk painting while designing
boutique dresses, incorporating
hand-painted silk pieces.
In her work she uses a variety
of techniques and products to

Her silk creations span silk

“I really love what I do, and I want my art to be an example to my kids and others
and show that even after 30 years of putting a passion aside, it is possible to open
your heart and do what you really want and love to do.”
