Slaves on Bonaire were permitted to grow
their own crops. Families and friends were
permitted to help with the harvest. Today,
the Simadan festival is similar, with the
harvest being a celebratory event with food
and drink, family, friends and neighbours
coming together to lend a hand with the
harvest.

This is a public holiday, honouring the
birthday of King Willem Alexander with
various celebratory events.

Rincon Day
This is a special day on Bonaire, where the
focus is on the oldest village on the island,
Rincon. It is a day fi lled with celebration,
food, music, traditional dances and a parade.

Miss Tourism Bonaire 2019
The winner of this contest will be the face of
Bonaire’s tourism for the year. Visitors can
expect to learn a great deal about the island
by attending this event. It is organized by
Tourism Corporation Bonaire.
