Carlisle Bay Marine Park Credit: ICE Portal - TripAdvisor Needham’s Point To the south of Carlisle Bay is Needham’s Point, home of the second oldest lighthouse on Barbados which was built in 1855. The lighthouse resides on the grounds of the Hilton Hotel. Also part of the Hilton Hotel is Charles Fort which is the largest on the island. It was built by the British in 1650 to protect Carlisle Bay from enemy attacks. Six shipwrecks lie within the Carlisle Bay Marine Park, popular with divers and snorkelers. Located on the island’s west coast, you’ll fi nd these wrecks at a depth of between 3 and 17 metres. They are all in close proximity to each other, amplifying the dive/snorkel experience. Coral, sponges and an impressive assortment of marine life live among the wrecks and the reef, making this an exciting area for exploration and discovery for both the amateur and professional underwater enthusiast. Needham’s Point is also home to beautiful beaches and warm, crystal-clear water, great for snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and other water sports. [The oldest lighthouse on the island is South Point Lighthouse, built in 1852.]
