18th century artifacts that were usually brought
to the island for trade, cargo or for personal
purposes. There is also a section with an exhibition
recognizing the Statian and American ties, which
resulted in the “First Salute” to the American Flag
on November 16th 1776.
In the 18th century section or the “Simon Doncker
House” located in the dining room and upstairs
bedroom area, there are displays of well preserved
18th century furniture, Chinese, English and Dutch
ceramics and utensils, giving an insight of how the
opulent lived.
Downstairs in the Old wine cellar, there is an
amazing Pre-Colombian display dating back
around 500 BC – 300 AD.
Our Final room is focused on Slavery, where you
will be able to learn about the origins and life
of our African ancestors, who were brought to
the island during the 1600’s via slave trade. This
includes valuable information on oral history and
traditions, leading up to the abolishment of slavery
during 1863.
On the Museum grounds, there are additional
points of interest, but activities can be created or
organized depending on the request of guests.
