Also, during my time working at the museum, I had
the opportunity to work along with a local UNESCO
award winning “Playwright” Mr Ellis Lopes (now
retired), who also noticed my talents in writing
plays, short sketches and acting. Over 10 years, I
have written many plays, and performed along on
stage with many local actors at many local events.
My upbringing played a major role in my life. I
was instilled with the good morals and values of
being a positive influence, and helping others
from the heart in the community or where ever I
may go. Especially being a female, I believe that
this is a very strong role women should play in
communities. Over the years, I have contributed
my part in volunteering my assistance, expertise
and time in the local community. I enjoy working in
the Tourism sector. I assist researchers, historians,
journalists, travel writers, local schools or anyone
interested in historical and cultural information or
projects about St. Eustatius. I am also a member
of several non- profit organizations on the island.
I am the founder and leader of our Museum Youth
Club called “Simon Doncker Club”. Via Museum
club activities, I have the opportunity to share my
passion with youngsters, with the aim to educate
historically and culturally. The Simon Doncker
Club is also well known around the island for our
theatrical performances, and cultural dances at
local events. This year we will be celebrating 10
years of existence, and we are very proud of all our
achievements.
In 2010, I received the Tour Guide of the year
award, and in 2014, the Prince Bernard Culture
Prize.
