PLACES OF INTEREST St. Thomas Anglican Church Built in 1643, this is said to be the oldest church on the island and possibly also the first Anglican church to be built in the Caribbean. You will find this historic church about three miles north of the city of Charlestown. It occupies a scenic spot on a hill from where you can get beautiful views of the ocean. Its cemetery, located beside the church, is the final resting place of many of the island’s first settlers. This church was built to serve Nevis’ original capital, Jamestown, but the town was obliterated during a tsunami in 1690. The capital was relocated to Charlestown which is still the island’s capital today. Photo Credit: Clair Lake The Cool of the Tree
