The Vixen Wreck
West of Somerset Village, just off Daniel’s Head, you’ll spot the bow of this wreck jutting out of the water. She was
a gunboat built in England in 1867 and later sent to Bermuda. Its interior was made of iron, rendering it slow,
so it was sunk in 1896. Today, it is a protected wreck and popular tourist attraction with glass-bottom boats
providing tours to view it. An impressive variety of marine life has taken up residence in this sunken vessel which
attracts underwater enthusiasts but a permit will be needed to scuba dive at this site. None is needed to snorkel.
