Holetown Festival The English first landed in Barbados at what is now called Holetown, in February 1627. The Holetown Festival which started in 1977, is a commemoration of this event. It includes cultural performances, historical lectures, a queen show, bus tour of the old Holetown Village, street parade and of course, food. Photo Credit: Sue Kellerman Andromeda Botanic Gardens Located on a hillside in St. Joesph overlooking the island’s east coast, six acres of this beautiful garden offers tropical plants, flowers, trees, streams and waterfalls to the delight of its visitors. The garden, once private, was started in 1954 by a local horticulturalist who, on her death bequeathed it to the Barbados National Trust. Sunbury Plantation House Built in 1660, this Great House is a relic of the island’s sugar plantation history with Victorian-style rooms, antique furniture, beautifully landscaped grounds and immaculate gardens. Take a guided tour of the house and its grounds and get an insight into the way the plantation was run. There’s a souvenir shop and also a restaurant on site. Photo Credit: Gary J. Wood
