PLACES OF INTEREST
Like many of the islands in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico is steeped in history and has beautiful beaches
which are licked by the Caribbean Sea’s warm blue waters. Although many tourists to the island may
spend most of their time on one or other of the beaches, if they want a break from the sea and the sand
there are many places of interest to consider.
Castillo de
San Felipe del
Morro
Located in San Juan,
the island’s capital,
Castillo de San Felipe
del Morro, more
commonly known as
just “El Morro”, is the
largest fortification
in the Caribbean and
is now a National
Historic Site. Built to
protect the island and
the shipping route,
as a visitor walks all 6
levels of this citadel
they will get a glimpse
of the island’s history
from the 1500s to
today which includes
the United States
enhancements during
WW11.
