Recycle plastic bags
Plastic bags are not accepted
in curbside recycling bins
because they get trapped
in the sorting equipment at
recycling facilities. Plastic
bags that go to recycling
facilities are thrown away, not
recycled. And if recyclable
items are placed in plastic
bags, they are thrown away,
too, at the beginning of the
sorting process. Instead, bring
your clean plastic grocery
bags, newspaper sleeves, dry
cleaning bags, and bread bags
to a dedicated recycling bin
at the Department of Public
Works, Englewood Public
Library, City Hall, Community
Baptist Church, Municipal
Court and Janis E. Dismus
Middle School. The bags will
be recycled by Trex, a company
that manufactures eco-friendly
composite decking and railing.
Englewood will also receive a
bench made from plastic bags.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING
In partnership with Vantage Health System, the
Health Department conducted Mental Health First
Aid training on May 21 for a total of 20 participants.
This is the second such training this year to date.
The Health Department provides training to the
community as part of the Stigma-Free initiative. The
Department’s certified instructor received training in
this discipline through a grant awarded to the Bergen
County Department of Health, Division of Mental
Health Services.

Anyone can take the 8-hour training – first
responders, students (over 18), teachers, leaders of
faith communities, human resources professionals,
and caring citizens. Sometimes the best first aid is
you! Take the course, save a life, strengthen your com-
munity.
This training can be scheduled in one 8-hour
session or two 4-hour sessions. Contact Deborah
