90 ADAPT In July 2014, the Football World Cup semi-final between Germany and Brazil generated 35.6 million tweets, a Twitter record at the time. Even the fastest speed readers couldn’t keep up with that volume of information. Thankfully researchers in the Science Foundation funded ADAPT Centre for Digital Content Technology developed the ‘Brazilator’, a live tweet translation streaming service. # The clever system tracked any tweets with #WorldCup and #WC2014, translating them into the requested language and even providing sentiment analysis for the individual teams during matches. The technology was more recently used during the Irish referendum on marriage equality, the age of eligibility for election to the Office of the President and the 2016 Irish General Election. www.adaptcentre.ie
