Compass and what it is doing ?

By - Richard Brickenden President of Compass
The National Association of Compass is the s t a t u t o r y b o d y representing Parent Associations in Protestant and Minority Religion Secondary Schools .
We are a constituent part of the National Parents Council ( post primary ) and as such are recognised by the Department of Education and Skills . There are 28 such affiliated schools in the Republic . Most of these will have elected Parent Representatives on their Boards of Management .
The majority of Compass Schools have links with the Church of Ireland and there are also five Protestant established Comprehensive Schools , three of which are under the patronage of the Archbishop of Dublin , One under the Bishop of Cork and one under the Donegal Board of Education . The other minority religion schools are St Andrews College in Dublin which is associated with the Presbyterian Church , Wesley College in Dublin under the auspices of the Methodist Church Annual Conference ; The Society of Friends manages Newtown School in Waterford and has links with Drogheda Grammar School ; and the Jewish Community runs Stratford School in Rathgar , Dublin .
All Schools affiliated to Compass express a particular ethos which stems from their respective religious and cultural traditions . They welcome pupils and teachers from all religious backgrounds and none . Thanks to the affiliated schools for paying the fees that part fund Compass activities .
At Compass we endeavour to support and represent all the Parents who choose to educate their children in any of the Minority Religion Secondary Schools . We are delighted to perform this function irrespective of individual religious beliefs or none , and we hope that each pupil will benefit in a positive and inclusive way from the particular ethos of your chosen secondary school .
