It is also common for students to “refer themselves” for a one-on-one meeting by
using one of two “Drop Boxes” near Ms. Friedman’s office and in the Junior High
wing. The School Nurse, Ms. Jeannine Blatt, may suggest students meet with Ms.
Friedman following a visit to the Nurse’s office for physical symptoms of anxiety or
distress. Students who receive academic support may benefit from help with social
skills, impulse control, or other challenges and are recommended by Dr. Pam Dillion,
Director of Student Services. Ms. Friedman also consults with the teachers who
supervise lunch and recess to hear their observations of social dynamics and will
follow up as needed.
CLASS OF 2018
Villa faculty and staff collaborate closely to ensure that services are available to
support and nurture students during the day and actively partner with parents to
communicate resources, suggestions, and updates. As Villa parent Jen Merchant
shares, “My family received support when faced with challenges that will surely
affect us all at one point or another during the school years. When the school
became aware of my child’s struggle, we were immediately met with a team of
support between the classroom teacher, Counselor Susan Friedman, and Nurse
Jeannine Blatt. There was direct daily communication, empathy, and partnership
in supporting our child as we all navigated through a difficult experience. It was all
hands on deck! The level of personal support and care is absolutely what made the
difference in reassuring our child, developing an understanding of the issue, and
rebuilding confidence.”
