Attes aficionado: JULIA HUGHES Attes moment: WALKIES Late nights, early mornings, deadlines, homework, toddler tantrums; life for Julia might be verging on crazy but this working mum has a daily Attes moment in her arsenal to keep things ticking on sunshine. Pre-kids, Julia’s mantra was pretty much work hard, play hard. By day it was all about climbing the career ladder and come cocktail ‘o clock she’d be scaling the heady heights of a bar stool. Oh, how times have changed. Fast forward six years and the only thing that she’s close to climbing is the wall. Rocking the mum bun and blood-shot eye look, Julia can wipe away whatever comes out of her children’s bodies without a mere flinch. Just to keep things interesting, there’s also a demanding job in the mix. But would she change it? Never - not even for another hour in bed on a Sunday morning! So, what stops Julia wanting to swap places with her younger self? What is it that keeps her sane, when all around her, a miniature army is declaring war on her one-time immaculate home? As much as Julia loves her girls, it’s time away from them that fuels her contentment. “No matter what chaos the day brings - and believe me, there’s always chaos - the one thing that never gets overlooked is the dog walk. There’s zero guilt involved when I press pause and step out outdoors with Luna. It’s a necessity for both of us. Hell, I’d go as far to say that it’s a necessity for the whole family,” explains Julia. “It’s when I mentally switch off, put the to-do list aside and breathe in my surroundings. I can recharge, rebalance and put things into perspective so that I can appreciate all the small, never- to-be-had-again moments that are so easily overlooked when engulfed in daily stresses.” Attes amkan: appreciate what you’ve got not what you used to have, or what you wish you had!
