In its 40 year history, many people
have come and gone from St
Joseph’s Home but a few things have
stayed the same, as has its mission
to provide holistic care with love,
care and compassion. We rounded
up 5 objects that best reflect the
home’s ethos.

Foundation
Stones
WHAT IS IT? The concrete slabs mark the
key milestones of the home, from its
opening in 1978 to its subsequent
blessing and redevelopment.
YEAR OF BIRTH: Various
WHY IT MATTERS: They chart the home’s journey
in a nutshell and remind viewers of where we
came from and how far we have come. The stones
are on display at the ground floor of St Magdalene
Centre (Annex Building).
Chapel
WHAT IS IT? The centrepiece of the home, this red brick building
provides solace and respite to many a resident, staff and visitor
regardless of their faith. Its high arches and soothing wood panels
draws visitors into its sanctum which is kept cool by casement
windows and now modern air conditioning.
YEAR OF BIRTH: 1993
WHY IT MATTERS: The cornerstone of the home, the chapel informs
the philosophy of care as well as its vision and mission. It is where
feast days and special occasions, such as the centennial celebration of
Mary’s appearance at Fatima to shepherd children, are celebrated and from where some residents are sent on
their final journey to meet their Creator.
