8 Serving to Change things you didn’t know about St Joseph’s Home 1 PIT STOP FOR ROYALTY As part of protocol to engage in philanthropic work while their husbands met with local leaders, the late Queen Aishwarya of Nepal visited St Joseph’s Home in February 1980 among other charity outfits. So friendly and easy was she to talk to that one of the residents told her he was from Nepal even though he had only been there. She took down his ‘address’ and promised to visit his family on his behalf! The late Queen was not the only royalty to grace the home. Three months later, the Sisters welcomed the wives of the late Malaysian Prime Minister Hussein Onn and the late Singapore President Wee Kim Wee. They sang Burung Kakak Tua - an Indonesian folk song about a cockatoo - with several of the residents.
