Serving with Nothing Like midwives who assist in the birthing process, death doulas spend their time helping people die as peacefully as possible. One of the earliest death doulas at St Joseph’s Home is Canossian Sister Rita Jaswant who started her vocation in the mid 1980s. Among those she has come across are mothers of young children, hardened men and family patriarchs with dark secrets. In letting them bare their souls (and sometimes bodies) to her, she has opened herself to change in ways she never imagined possible. 18 | St Joseph’s Home DEATH DOULA - SR RITA JASWANT
