TRADITIONAL GAMES Examples of games Example of game 16 - Romania O KING! O KING! The game should involve at least 3 children. The game is played in the classroom. Tools of the game: Throne, crown, king clothes. 1. Choose a child to be king, (improvise a throne and a crown) and the other children will be his servants. 2. The king and the servants have the next discussion: o Servant: - O king, o king, may I come into your kingdom? o King: - I welcome you with great joy ! o Servant: - How many steps may I take? o King: - take... o Giant steps (great strides forward until you reach the king); o Dwarf steps (small steps in squatting position toward until you reach the king); o Horsey steps (steps leap until you reach the king); o Ant steps (put one foot in front of the other until you reach the king); o Polenta - a jump spun (you try to spin to advance until you reach the king); o Fish steps (a bounce in front until you reach the king). (one can improvise a lot of moves until the servant gets in front of the king who sits on the throne) o King: - Welcome! (the king reaches the servant and puts the crown on his head. Then the roles change) 3. In turn, all the servant children play the king. 4. The game ends after all children had the role of the king. Children love this game because it creates good mood and stimulates the pleasure of moving. The child who plays the king gives different tasks considering his own will only, in order that the servants get to him. The game gives children freedom of choice, it trains their attention and helps them socialize and that is a good thing for shy children. The teacher explains the rules and intervenes in the process only if it is necessary. 41
