motivate you (NOT power, money, or any of
those other fleeting accoutrements). Public
service is about serving the public first—not
yourself. So being grounded in your values
allows you to make decisions in a way that
is true to the constituents who voted for you
because of those purported values and stances
on the issues.
Why are you running all these 5K’s this
summer?
AMARA: I’m running a bunch of 5ks this
summer 1) because I like running, and 2)
because it’s part of a series with CUSP
Magazine called “Amara Runs the City.” It’s an
opportunity to check out great neighborhoods,
support some great causes, and meet
Chicagoans from all walks of life! We’re able to
join forces with My Block, My Hood, My City to
really showcase all that Chicago has to offer
and shed some light on people, organizations,
and businesses doing great things for the city.
What’s next?
AMARA: What’s next for me? The world is my
oyster right now. I’m enjoying doing public
policy consulting work, educating the public on
key policy issues affecting us, and developing
initiatives that enhance the quality of life for
average Chicagoans. I’ve got options about
how to move forward, and that’s a great
feeling.
Who’s the most attractive politician in
Chicago and why?
Hmmm, I think we’ll have to do a public poll on
that one ;-)
