Why did you run for mayor and not run for a lower-level office first?
AMARA: I ran for mayor because I had a very specific vision of what Chicago
could be and knew I was more than qualified to lead in the actualization of
that vision. I have a passion for problem-solving and public policy. My entire
life prepared me for the journey I’ve embarked upon, which includes running
for mayor. I didn’t ”run for a lower-level office first” because I didn’t approach
my run for mayor like a politician—I’m NOT a politician. I’m a problem-solver.
Second, I’m qualified to be mayor, so why wouldn’t I run? And finally, my call
to run for mayor was quite specific—it was for mayor and no other position.
