Young people have the ability to communicate more easily than
older folks because of technology and social media; but don’t
forget that in order for communities to become sustainable,
we also need to develop strong institutions. Social media is
fine for conveying news or music of the day, but you still need
institutions in communities, which means bringing people
together on the most basic level on your block, or in your
neighborhood, and across neighborhoods to discuss public
