Showing love for their Alma Mater The Class of 2012 demonstrated their school spirit when they returned to BMHS on January 8, 2013 for Graduate Return Day. This annual event is organized by the Counseling Center as a way to connect recent graduates with current Seniors so they can share and discuss their college experiences. After an informal question and answer session, the graduates enjoyed socializing with each other at lunch in the school library. The visit was sponsored by the SportsUnited Program which gives international athletes the opportunity to interact with American student athletes and engage in team building, conflict resolution, and disability sports activities. The participants are part of the Sao Paulo Shooting Stars program that provides English language instruction, basketball training and leadership workshops to low-income, public school students in the Sao Paolo metro area. During their visit, the Brazilian students were able to interact with BMHS students and attend classes, including Spanish, Global Studies, Jazz, and African Dance. They also gave some pointers to PE students, showing them their basketball skills. At the end of the day, Mark Wiggens, a Youth Empowerment Speaker, addressed them before they were able to join in basketball practice with the Women’s Varsity team. Spring 2013 MUSTANG MESSENGER 7 |
